Haiqi Wang:
One of our visiting scholars this Spring is Dr. Haiqi Wang from the China University of Petroleum at Qingdao. Haiqi received his Ph.D. degree in GIScience from the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research at the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2006. Haiqi is currently an associate professor in the College of Geo-resources and Information and his major research interests include spatial statistics, spatial optimization, and spatial data mining algorithms. He will be with us until September. His office is Derby 1120. Please stop by to visit Haiqi, he will be excited to talk to you!
Darla Munroe, associate professor, geography, has recently been appointed as an Associate Editor for the journal of Geographical Analysis - an internationally renowned outlet for theoretical geography, spatial analysis and modeling. Congratulations Darla.

CONGRATULATIONS to Sara Santiago and Paul Soltesz for their 3'rd place finishes at the 2012 Denman Undergraduate Research Forum. The Dept. is very proud of the 7 undergraduate submissions to the Denman this year and we encourage current and future undergrads to consider doing a Denman project. This two-day conference, to be held May 18-19, at Ohio State features an exciting and diverse array of panels composed of scholars, activists, and students from throughout the U.S. and internationally; lunchtime discussions; plenary panels featuring some of the most prominent scholars in the field; and a keynote by Justin Spring, biographer of Sam Steward, an alumnus of the Ohio State English Department (B.A., M.A., Ph.D., 1927-34).
